Trope Demand Radar

Demand signals counted 4 November 2026 · Source: Tropesmith demand signals (reader reviews, comments and posts)

Two numbers for each trope: how many demand signals mention it, and what share of them the classifier tagged underserved or novel. The size ranking lives on the romance and fantasy lists; here each section is sorted by tagged share. A demand signal is one specific thing a reader asked for or praised in a review, comment or post, picked out by Tropesmith's classifier. One review can give several. Each signal gets a rarity tag (common, underserved or novel) from the text of that review or post alone; the classifier is never shown what is on the shelf. A tag points at where to look. It does not prove that no book answers the signal.

What this page does not show

It does not show which tropes are rising. Reviews and posts are read some time after they are written, so the latest weeks are under-counted, and any week-on-week change would reflect that schedule rather than readers. A high tagged share means the classifier tagged many of a trope's mentions underserved or novel; it says nothing about how many books already deliver the trope.

Frequently asked questions

What does this page show?

For the top live romance and fantasy tropes by demand signals (the same lists as the two roundups), two numbers side by side: how many demand signals mention the trope as a main or secondary tag, and what share of them Tropesmith's classifier tagged underserved or novel (counted 4 November 2026). Each section is sorted by the tagged share.

Why does this page not show momentum?

Because the count cannot support it yet. Tropesmith reads reviews and posts some time after they are written, so the latest weeks are under-counted; a rise or fall between two recent windows would measure that reading schedule, not reader interest. This page does not show a momentum number until that lag is removed.

Which tropes carry the highest tagged share?

Among the romance tropes listed here, Trauma Recovery (64% of 24,796 demand signals); among the fantasy tropes, Morally Grey Villain (69% of 4,003). The tag is the classifier's reading of each mention on its own, without a view of the shelf.
